Encounter Breaks Out in Kishtwar, Jaish-e-Mohammed Operatives Believed Cornered (Open Ai)
Jammu: An encounter took place between security forces and terrorists on Sunday in Chatru area of Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. This incident came to light in the afternoon when a search operation was being conducted in the forest near Sonar village. The security forces were cordoning off the area and searching based on the intelligence input already received.
Meanwhile, the terrorists hiding in the forest suddenly opened fire, after which the security forces also took charge and retaliated. In response, the security forces also took charge and opened fire. After the encounter, the entire area has been surrounded, and the operation is still going on.
According to sources, security agencies had been receiving information about the movement of terrorists in this area for a long time. Based on this input, a joint team of army, police and other security forces planned the search operation. The forest area is inaccessible and terrorists have been hiding here before also.
When the security forces were advancing inside the forest, the terrorists felt themselves surrounded. Meanwhile, the terrorists started firing without any warning. The security forces immediately took position and retaliated. After this the encounter intensified.
As soon as information about the firing was received, the entire area was sealed. A blockade was imposed on the surrounding roads. Considering the possibility of any terrorist escaping, additional soldiers were sent to the spot. Surveillance inside the forest has been increased.
Security sources say that a group of terrorists is present in the forest. There is a possibility that these terrorists may be associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed. However, the number and identity of the terrorists has not been officially confirmed yet.
The area is surrounded by dense forest and hills. Visibility is low and the roads are extremely difficult. For this reason, the security forces are moving forward with utmost caution. The area is being thoroughly investigated at every step.
According to officials, the situation is under control. No injuries have been confirmed so far. Senior officials are monitoring the operation from the spot. The search operation is being carried forward without any haste.
Security agencies say that detailed information will be given only after the operation is completed. The number of terrorists, recovered weapons, and other information will be shared later. At present, the entire focus of the security forces is on securing the area.
